Piles is the common name for hemorrhoids and it is known to affect almost half the population at some point by the time people reach age 50. Although it is an extremely common medical condition, it is easy to implement piles treatment and sometimes the condition can go away all by itself.

Piles can either be found externally around the anus or internally in the anal passage. They are little cushion like group of blood vessels that have swollen up and appear like varicose veins. There are many possible causes of piles and these include pregnancy and obesity, where they may be caused by build up of pressure; frequent constipation or diarrhea; straining to go to the bathroom; anal intercourse or even some other medical problems.

You are likely to know pretty quickly when you are suffering from piles as one of the top reported symptoms is sharp and shooting pain when you go to the toilet. In addition to the pain, there may be some blood present on the toilet tissue in spots. Around the anus there may also be swelling, inflammation, itchiness and irritation.

Piles treatment can include natural or home treatments and in extreme cases patients may also undergo surgery for their removal. In many cases the hemorrhoids will heal themselves with only minimal treatment. Natural treatments that you can use include icing the area with an ice pack to reduce inflammation, increasing your water intake and increasing the amount of fiber that you consume. Drinking plenty of water will reduce the chance of constipation and make stools softer so that straining is not required. Fiber will also improve the digestion and reduce constipation and other problems that can cause piles.

There are a few piles treatment products that you can buy at the drug store to reduce the symptoms of hemorrhoids. There are stool softeners that commonly contain coloxyl and sometimes senna. Senna is a natural laxative and coloxyl is a stool softener that helps water to penetrated the faecal matter and make it easier to pass. These are both gentle and if you take them in the evening you are likely to have an effect the following morning.

With some natural relief, increased water, dietary change and exercise, you should be able to successfully find piles treatment and get rid of the problem once and for all.

Other treatments available at the chemist usually focus on reducing the pain of hemorrhoids and itching and inflammation. There are creams and suppositories that you can buy which have an ingredient to numb the area so that going to the bathroom is not painful and an anti inflammatory agent. A natural treatment that can be very soothing is witch hazel. This is a natural astringent and it can be applied topically to the anal area to soothe, reduce pain and swelling.

Other treatments that may be useful include aloe vera, pine bark, butcher’s broom and pile wort. You may be able to find these at your health food store. It is also very important that you do regular exercise as this allows the digestive system to function well.
